// Organizational instrument · pilot

COMPASS.

Readiness for change, measured across the people who have to carry it. Twenty-one short statements about how work feels right now, answered in about four minutes, reported in aggregates by unit, role and wave.

// What it measures

A model with levels, not a list of questions.

Each COMPASS item measures one defined construct from the research on demands and resources at work, self-determination, perceived organizational support, organizational justice and the psychological contract. The items sit on levels that build on each other, so the report can show not only where readiness is low but which level it is missing at.

/01Structural resourcesRole clarity, information, instrumental support, working conditions. Whether people can do the change at all.
/02Evaluative resourcesCommunication, transparency, coworker support, autonomy, justice, growth, recognition, consistency. Whether people trust the change.
/03Psychological stateMastery experience, demand-resource balance, boundary management. Whether people have the capacity for it.
/04OutcomesIntrinsic motivation, self-rated performance. What the change is already doing to people.

Two composites cut across the levels: communication and trust, because they are what leadership can act on fastest.

// How it runs

In waves.

/01

Set up

Register your organization, add sites and employees (single entry or file import), and receive one survey link per person.

/02

Wave one

Before or early in the transformation. Four minutes per person, anonymised before reporting.

/03

Read

Readiness by unit and role, item ranking, distribution, the levers that move it, and a written report.

/04

Wave two and beyond

After interventions. The trend across waves shows whether they worked, and where.

// What you receive

Aggregates, never individuals.

Results are shown for groups of at least five people; smaller groups are suppressed. The organization sees its own units and waves. Once enough organizations have run COMPASS, benchmarks against comparable organizations are added, and your organization can be compared with the rest of the population excluding itself.

Example · trust composite, wave 1 to wave 2 (anonymised)
Wave 1
Wave 2

Trust rose in units where leadership communication was addressed between the waves and stayed flat elsewhere. The report names the items that moved and the ones that did not.
